American Judge Directs Deportation of Pro-Palestinian Leader Due to Inaccurate Facts on Green Card Application

A federal judge in Louisiana has ruled the deportation of Palestinian rights advocate Mahmoud Khalil to either Algeria or Syria, declaring that he neglected to fully disclose required details on his green card petition, as per court records.

His attorneys stated they intend to appeal the removal ruling and noted that a federal court’s separate orders currently bar the authorities from immediately deporting or detaining him while his federal proceedings is ongoing.

“This is no shock that the administration continues to act against me for using my right to expression,” Khalil stated in a statement. “Their latest attempt, through a unjust tribunal, exposes their real intentions once again.”

Judge’s Finding and Rationale

The decision dated 12 September stated that the failure in complete reporting on Khalil’s forms “was not an oversight by an uninformed applicant … rather, this court finds that the defendant wilfully misrepresented key information.”

Judge Jamee Comans ordered: “This order herewith further ordered that the respondent be deported from the United States to Algeria, or in the alternative to Syria.”

The activist, a green card holder of the United States who is wed to a US national and has a US-born son, was detained for three months beginning in March and confronted possible removal. His wife was expecting at the time, and Khalil missed the birth of their child during detained.

A one-time Columbia University attendee and among the most prominent leaders of countrywide pro-Palestinian campus protests, Khalil was freed from custody in June but has faced ongoing risk of deportation from US authorities.
