19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his first trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after that period of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and frequent reactions on court had led commentators to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
